They should start by being as far away as the painting is tall. Then you should look at the painting very carefully there and then certain questions should come up. So then you go up and look at it really closely, and just lose the whole idea odf the rectangle, and just look at the surface, look at the marks and try and figure out what’s going on. And than go back to that original position. And then go back twice as far as height of the painting. it’s like a little dance. That’s always the way I look at paintings.
